Tips To Help You Make Your Next Move Easier

Moving takes time, patience, and planning. Fortunately, there are moving companies out there to help you get through what could be some of the most challenging days of your life. Here, you'll learn a little about how to make the moving process easier for your family.

Utilize a Moving and Storage Company

The day you decide that you're moving is the day that you should begin looking for a moving service to assist you. The more lead time you have, the better the chances of finding a service that is available the day you plan to move, and you'll have more options to choose from.

If you have several weeks or months before the move, look into the portable storage services. You can begin packing up for the move long before the day you are planning to leave your home, and you won't have the boxes sitting around the house, getting in the way until moving day. You can load up the portable storage unit, and call to have it picked up and transported to a storage facility until you are ready to have it moved to your new home.

When you call around for quotes, be sure to include information about large, hard to move items and any obstacles that the movers may face–stairs, narrow streets, etc. These are the types of things that could increase the rate you'll pay for the service. Disclosing this information now will help you avoid surprise fees at the end of the move.

Plan Ahead

Do your best to make all of your final arrangements for the move at least a month ahead of moving day. You have a lot to take care of when it comes to changing your address, getting utilities hooked up at the new home, transferring school transcripts, notifying the post office of your address change, etc. There's lots to do, so try to plan in advance, and let the moving company know the date you plan to be moved into the new home. Then, if anything changes, you can always call back and push back the change of address.

Tip: If you're moving out of town and won't be using the same medical services, be sure to take the time to get your records before the move. You may be required to go to the office and sign for the release of those records, so doing it now will save you the hassle of returning to do it at a later date.

Talk with your local moving services to learn more about how they can take some of the burden of moving off of your shoulders and make it a much more enjoyable time for you.
