Does Your Teenager Have A Passion For Fashion? 4 Tips For Packing Shoes During Your Household Move

Blog

During the teen years, many kids become interested in fashion as they spend more time on social media and have more control over what they wear. While it's always exciting to see what they wear next, you may discover that their extensive shoe collection poses a few challenges during your move. Fortunately, you can use these tips to help your teen learn how to pack their favorite accessories for your family's move to a new residence.

Sort Through Their Collection

Often, household moving tasks reveal that certain items in your house are no longer necessary, and this is also true with shoes. Have your teen start by separating their shoes according to whether or not they still fit; then they can sort the shoes further into categories that designate which ones will be thrown out, donated, and kept.

Choose the Right Packing Materials

Ideally, shoes should be packed in their original shoeboxes; however, those boxes tend to be thrown away or damaged over time. If the shoes lack an original box, try to find ones that are similar in size. You will also need packing paper and larger boxes that can hold several smaller ones. As you shop for packing materials, avoid plastic wrap that can trap moisture in the shoes and cause damage. Newspaper is another material to avoid because the ink can transfer to the shoes during the move.

Stuff and Wrap the Shoes

Once your teen is ready to begin to pack, help them stuff the inside of each shoe with packing paper to help retain their shape. Remember to stuff boots all the way to the top. Wrap the outside of each shoe in packing paper, and secure the end of the paper with tape to keep it all together.

Pack Heavy Shoes First

After the shoes are wrapped and stuffed, you can place them in their shoeboxes and load each one into the larger box; alternatively, you can pack the shoes directly into the larger box. Either way, you must pack the heaviest shoes first so that they rest at the bottom of the box and do not crush the lighter shoes.

As you pack your teen's shoes for a move, remember to avoid overloading boxes, and choose to use several smaller ones if things get heavy. By showing your teenager how to pack their shoes the right way, they'll learn a valuable lesson about the importance of caring for their collection.
